1. “There’s really no such thing as ‘voiceless’. There are only the deliberately silenced, or the preferably unheard.” Comment on the issues of caste or class as highlighted in any one text prescribed in your course in the light of the above statement

2. The requirements in an arranged marriage in India are different for men and women. Discuss how this is reflected in Eunice D’Souza’s poem ‘Marriages are Made’.

3. Critically analyse how the intersections of race, class, gender affect the dynamics between the young man and the American girl in ‘Blackout’.

4. Comment on how Wilfred Owen depicts the horror of war and the pain of death in his poem ‘Dulce et Decorum Est’.

5. Critically comment on the metaphor of food as explored in Dharker’s poem ‘At the Lahore Kadhai’.

6. Some writers attempt to win sympathy for the oppressed by highlighting their meekness and innocence. Others write in a style to evoke protest. Which approach do you find more effective? Answer with reference to any two writers in this course.
